Committee Work Plan:
The Effectiveness Committee plans to tackle the following issues this year:
- Committee on Committees
Work on formalizing the assignment of SC members and staff-at-large to university committees will continue from the previous year. This involves developing a definitive list of university-wide committees that staff sit on, differentiating between SC and non-SC appointees, as well as a survey to gauge interest in serving on these committees and procedures to alert and evaluate respondents of university-wide committee openings. Options for training these staff members are being considered. A regular reporting back to Council on the activities of appointed members is being developed.
- Develop an "Informal Guide to Staff Council"
Clarify the procedures listed in the by-laws in common language as well as include items that SC members should be aware of but are not necessarily by-law material. This is a "how-to" and "history" document as opposed to the official-rules (that distinction will remain with by-laws).
- Conduct a Staff-at-Large Survey
Develop a comprehensive survey to all staff asking them for their opinions on university-wide issues that SC should be involved in, opinions on SC and their interests in serving on university-wide committees.
- Analyze the Existing Meeting Structure
Conduct an analysis of the current meeting structure to see if it works and if not, recommend ways for improvement.
- Year-End Report & Transition Planning
Develop a summary document highlighting Staff Council's year for archival and transition purposes. Some topics could include: goals and progress made on them, council activities, appointments made to university-wide committees and their actions, and a breakdown of the Council's demographic profile.
- Constitution and By-Law Review
Conduct a comprehensive review of the constitution and by-laws to ensure that they are fully up-to-date with recent council actions and changes to the university's organization structure
