St. Vincent Week Events: Sept 25-29, 2006

Vincentiana Exhibition with Fr. Udovic
Rev. Edward Udovic, C.M. graciously presented DePaul’s unique Vincentian Collection at the Richardson Library to over 25 staff and faculty on Wednesday, September 27. The hour presentation of original St. Vincent de Paul letters, books, and material culture items was followed by wine and cheese reception. A special thanks goes out to Kathryn DeGraff and the others in University Archives and Special Collections that helped coordinate this event.

Food and Clothing Drive
To capture the spirit of St. Vincent in benefiting those less fortunate, Staff Council and Faculty Council sponsored a food and clothing drive throughout St. Vincent’s week. All donations were given to the Homeless Outreach Program at the St. Vincent de Paul Center in Lincoln Park. Denise Howard, from the Homeless Outreach Program, stressed the need for men’s clothing, toiletries, and non-perishable food items.

There were four drop-off locations, two in the Loop and two in Lincoln Park. On Friday, September 29 th St. Vincent de Paul Center picked up over 50 bags containing food and clothes. The response from the faculty, staff, and students was overwhelming. Thus, the Council extended the drive through the end of Monday, October 2 nd. Even today, Thursday, October 5 th, two more bags of clothes were discovered at one of the drop-off locations. The drive was a definite success! Furthermore, Staff Council will consider holding a similar drive in the future, perhaps to benefit a different non-profit organization.
