Election Personal Statement (2008):
My eldest son attended DePaul University. By the end of the welcome Mass and reception, I recognized that DePaul University is a very special place, one in which I would like to be a part. April 11, 2005, was my first day at DePaul University, having been hired as a secretary, web designer and technology resource serving both the Political Science and Sociology Departments. After my first year here, the secretary for the Sociology Department left and I transitioned into that position, which allowed me to continue to work with, and be with, people I enjoy and respect. In addition, I am currently pursuing an undergraduate Catholic Studies degree. My previous job as a secretary at Vernon Hills High School provided several opportunities to serve on committees such as the Faculty and Staff Development Committee, Technology Planning Committee and Athletic Department Code of Conduct Committee. I gained insight and experience looking at the “big picture” in planning and executing staff development workshops, in evaluation and implementation of improvement initiatives, and in reviewing and updating policies/procedures. Combined with an ability to listen and to work well with others, this know-how will be a valuable asset to Staff Council. I have been a beneficiary of the Council’s efforts. Membership on Staff Council is a way to answer St. Vincent’s call to service. Through participation in Staff Council I hope to participate in its work and to serve this community.
