Chartwells (2): |

January 2009 issue Chartwell's has recently increased its weekend service fee from $25 to $45 per order. When is this contract up for renewal, who reviews the pricing, and what safeguards are in place for managing increases like these? Not only are we a university and therefore operating 7 days a week, but these expenses are paid through student tuition dollars. It seems this exclusive contract is proving more beneficial to Chartwells than to the DePaul community. Response Source: Joe Mroczkowski Response: A weekend service fee exists because supplemental staffing is brought in to fulfill weekend orders. The DePaul Catering Office (Chartwells) has a weekend service fee according to the following schedule: 1-25 guests: $25 per delivery 26-49 guests: $45 per delivery 50-75 guests: $65 per delivery 76–125 guests: $125 per delivery 126 guests and above: $1.00 per guest or deliver This fee has been in place for several years and has not seen a recent increase. If you feel you were charged incorrectly according to the above schedule, please call it to my attention or the DePaul Catering Office. Although this weekend service fee scale is not currently detailed on the catering website, it will be posted there soon. Catering pricing is reviewed annually and more frequently if necessary. The Consumer Price Index for cost of food away from the home, and cost comparisons to similar catering operations are examples of elements that are involved in determining catering costs. |
