Tracking Sick and Vacation Time:

May 2009 issue

In the past someone submitted the question about unlimited sick time after so many years of employment. The response from HR was that it's not true. I believe it to be somewhat true. I have been employed at DePaul for 22 years. After 10 years I was told the same thing about unlimited sick time. The sick time on my paycheck certainly would make one think that I had unlimited sick time. Each year I started with anywhere from 100-300 hours of sick time. I would also continue to earn sick time throughout the year. The number of hours I would earn each pay period varied. I know of others in the same position who experienced the same thing with sick time. It seems like there was an unwritten policy regarding unlimited sick time after 10 years. No one has ever been able to find any supporting documentation. Beginning this year I started with 2 weeks sick time. Something certainly changed Wish I knew how much sick time I had at the end of 2008. If you view paychecks from past pay periods it only gives you the current sick and vacation time you have. Thank you

Response:
This is not an easy voice of staff to answer, but it is receiving attention.

The Staff Resources Committee is working on a response along with HR.
