Voice of Staff Submission Archives

Why isn’t Voice of Staff Up-to-Date?

June 2009 issue

It is June and the latest voice of staff issues are dated January. There should be no reason why staff council cannot keep voice of staff current. All issues submitted should be posted so the entire staff can see what others are saying. Perhaps give other staff members the opportunity to reply, like in real time. If voice of staff means anything I suggest staff council get with it and do a much better job. Stop dragging your feet.

Response: We appreciate your submission, and that staff are using the Voice of Staff (VOS) archive to learn more about the issues that are on the minds of their colleagues.  The Archive page is now up-to-date and we will strive to do a better job of posting submissions and responses in a more timely manner.

We also ask that you keep in mind that not every VOS submitted asks for a public response or is appropriate to post on the web site. Staff members often use the VOS page to address private issues or to ask for assistance in learning the correct university office to contact regarding an issue.

Additionally some VOS questions are larger issues that are appropriate to address through a guest speaker or discussion at a Staff Council monthly meeting. For example, when a staff member had a question about how the DPU Alert function is used during emergencies, we invited Bob Wachowski and Denise Mattson to the March Staff Council meeting for a larger conversation. (View our Minutes Archive at http://staffcouncil.depaul.edu/_meetings.htm)

Finally, Staff Council only posts submissions when we have responses to answer them. In this way we can provide all the information to post a complete picture of the question and answer.

For all these reasons, therefore, it may seem that several weeks or months elapse between postings. However, during that interim we are working the VOS submission to generate answers, help staff, and explore issues. We also encourage staff to attend our monthly meetings to learn about the important issues being addressed. We invite you to read the VOS page along with our disclaimer http://staffcouncil.depaul.edu/vos.htm to learn more about how VOS works. Please follow up with us by either posting a new VOS or sending us an email at staffcouncil@depaul.edu or to Victoria Simek, Staff Council President, at vsimek@depaul.edu.
