Human Resources:

July 2005 issue

Several issues have come up recently with Hr and how recruiting is done at DePaul. 1. difficulty contacting an HR representative by phone or email. 2. no prescreening of candidates for generic requirements (e.g. BS/BA required). 3. Difficulty in getting positions posted to websites, newspapers, journals, etc. 4. low frequency of resumes being sent to hiring managers. 5. HR titles (as opposed to “working titles”) being posted in advertisements for positions that are distracting to candidates applying. 6. “pass the buck” mentality. How can we address these issues and have HR work with us, rather than against us?

Response

HR submitted a request for proposal to several third party vendors for a new recruitment system for staff positions. The new recruitment system will provide numerous functionality including pre-screening filters, automatic posting to job boards and consistent resume/cover letter formatting. A final part of the project involves the review of current policies and procedures including the use of HR titles
