New DePaul Website

March 2008 issue

There were three submissions concerning the new DePaul website.

A. Though the new Web site looks great - it is not "DePaul." Why are we the only school in the Big East or even Chicago that's Web site doesn't feature are school colors? Vision Twenty12 is about improving quality and our "brand" why do feel like we no better than every other University when it comes to consistency in print, athletics, and the Web? Also, the day the site launched there were dozens of broken links have all of these been corrected?

B. Why does the new DePaul homepage feature a ridiculous picture of students having a snowball fight on the 11th floor of the DePaul center? A student engaged in such an activity would face judicial action from the Dean of Students should have been a red flag for someone on the Web design team. Are there any immediate plans to change this photo to one representing our students in a more positive light, perhaps learning or contributing to their community and not engaged in a playful yet violent activity?

C. Am I the only one who is bothered by the new home page? We are recognized as an institution that has great diversity yet our home page shows two majority students throwing snowballs. In addition, the throwing of snowballs might possibly be a code violation which would need to be addressed by the Dean of Students office. Just seems we could have found something more distinctive and mission focused than a snowball fight. What will we do in spring...a water balloon fight?
