Online Student Evaluations:

July 2005 issue

I believe we have all heard about the University’s budget shortfall for 05-06. pursuant to this, our Dean promised no layoffs in our school. However, I have heard through the grapevine that the initiative to go to online student evaluations will result in clerical staff positions possibly being eliminated. Is Staff council looking into this online project (which is already being rolled our for testing in Fall 05) and its impact on clerical staffing?

Staff Council contacted Dr. Nancy Hill, Chair of the Faculty Advisory Board on Teaching, Learning and Assessment to inquire about the impact of online student evaluations of faculty instruction on clerical staffing. Dr. Hill indicated that while the project is being implemented, the Board will be sensitive to the repercussions. The Board will encourage individual supervisors to assign new duties to clerical staff whose workload is reduced in response to student evaluations of faculty instruction moving online.
