Parking (LPC) 1:

August 2005 issue

I know the issue of the annual parking fee has been brought to the table several times. However, I hope that it continues to be address until a reasonable solution is reached. DePaul staff commute to the Lincoln Park Campus from all over the Chicagoland area; everyday, all day! We are not students that park at different times for a few hours a week. I know that as a full-time staff member I’m biased! However, because of the already relatively low salaries, the parking fee issue should be re-visited. Does the staff council have any plans to address this issue before the rate increases to over $600 per year?

Response

To answer this question, Staff Council contacted Facility Operations (FO). According to FO, the increase in the parking rate for the Lincoln Park Campus for this year is appromimately 2%, which is covering minor maintenance cost increases only. The big increase that realized going into this year was put into play toward eliminating a very large subsidy- a subsidy that hit all of the students as an expense to be covered whether they parked on property or not. It is hard to say what will happen in the future, though FO will be spending a good deal of time in the coming year talking about and developing a strategic parking plan for LPC- that will confront issues such as inventory, cost, and a whole host of other matters.
