Salary Disparity: |
||
March 2006 issue There is a distinct disparity in salaries at the Lincoln Park Campus compared to the Loop Campus. I have recently been told that 'yes' there are higher salaries in comparable job titles at the Loop Campus. Why is this practice allowed and what can I do to have my own position upgraded? It should not be necessay for me to 'move to a position' in the Loop in order to receive equal pay! Response Source: Gary Miller Response: The university is currently undergoing two separate internal salary equity studies - one for staff and one for faculty. The committee overseeing these studies is comprised of both faculty and staff representatives. The faculty study is considerably farther along then the staff study. For staff, an additional preliminary study is being conducted. This preliminary study will directly address your concern - we are ensuring that the university's staff salary grade structure is appropriate and that positions are assigned to the correct grade. Hence, positions of comparable value would be assigned to the same grade regardless of campus. Without this preliminary study, it is inappropriate for any person to say there are salary discrepancies by campus. There may be, but that is why the study is being conducted - to identify and correct this type of issue. All staff positions are being included in this study so you do not have to do anything to have your position evaluated. HR would appreciate you conveying this information to the person who told this to you and if either of you would like to speak with one of the staff representatives on the committee, please let Gary Miller know. |
