Smoking Ban: |
||
July 2005 issue Why is it taking DePaul so long to follow the lead of other colleges and universities in implementing a smoking ban 50-100 feet from university buildings? Walking through a plume of smoke to get into a building is bad enough let alone the smoke that works its way into classrooms and offices on upper floors. Response In July, Staff Council brought this issue to the attention of Facility Operations (FO). In response, Bob Janis, VP for the area, replied saying that his area can and will look into adding “No Smoking” signs at the building entrances around Lincoln Park, especially at on both sides of SAC, McGaw, Bryn and other key buildings. However, there is no plan to designate smoking areas. Smokers will simply need to move away from the building entrances; though it should be noted that it takes time and a number of warnings from passing FO and Public Safety staff to change habits. As of the beginning of the school year, these signs had been posted. If this continues to be an issue, please direct your comments to Facility Operations at x57377
