Support for Staff Membership in Professional Associations

April 2007 issue

When will the University recognize, support and provide funding for STAFF professional associations? The American Association for University Women is one of dozens of important staff based organizations and associations that are very very very important for staff development. Please take this issue to Father Dennis - it is extremely important for staff all across the University.

Response: Thank you for your submission. The issue of staff professional development and training is one that Staff Council has been working on for several months. Additionally, Goal 6 of VISION Twenty12 charges the university to address this issue. At this time, however, this is most appropriately handled in your area or department, and we encourage you to discuss the benefits of membership in organizations such as the American Association for University Women with your manager. I also encourage to you to attend the April 18th Staff Council meeting. On our agenda is a resolution about staff professional development, and Father Holtschneider’s will be joining us for an open session with staff beginning at 3 pm.
