Thank you to Staff Council

June 2007 comment

I would like to express my appreciation to the members of staff council. Their commitment to creating action items from the issues posted on the VOS forum is extremely valuable to the DePaul community. It was with great surprise that I read the piece in the May 1, 2007 issue of Newsline announcing the "New Benefit available July 1." According to the news brief "Coverage for prescription contraceptives and other eligible contraceptive services, which until now has only been offered in the HMO Illinois program, will become available on July 1 through all DePaul medical benefit programs." I understand how controversial this issue is for a Catholic institution but I am pleased and relieved that a sensible and fair resolution to this problem has been reached. I am also grateful that the Newsline reported the situation honestly. The news brief stated that the reason for the decision was because the university learned that the "Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) felt it had enough of a basis on which to sue DePaul over the issue."
