Voice of Staff Too Short:

April 2006 issue

why are voice of staff parts of meetings only 15 minutes long? if staff council is really trying to represent staff then the voice of staff parts should be at least 45 minutes. nothing can be properly discussed or explored in 15 minutes. you waste too much time on issues and topics that are not as important as learning what your constituency is concerned about. if you are not going to dedicate more time to the voice of staff, then you should stop calling yourselves staff council and start calling it voice of the administration council.

Response

By mandating that at least 15 minutes of each meeting are devoted to the Voice of Staff portion, Staff Council is able to ensure that concerns are heard each month, while making sure to allow time on the agenda to devote to other issues, updates, and discussions. If a topic raised during VOS necessitates further conversation, guest speakers or even special forums, then Staff Council is able to schedule time for that so that the issue is heard appropriately. As with all meeting discussions, should it be decided that a topic should continued to be discussed at the moment, the Council adjusts the agenda accordingly.
