As one of several elected councils charged with university governance, Staff Council is frequently called upon to appoint and/or recommend Staff Council members and staff-at-large to serve on university-wide committees.

Gerald Paetsch Advising Award Committee
This committee reviews nominations for the annual academic advising award,

which recognizes excellence in advising throughout the university. “One category of the award singles out excellence by an advisor whose primary responsibility is advising, while the second category is for someone who advises as part of their overall responsibilities.”

University Committee on International Programs
The university committee on International Programs recommends to the president, provost, deans, faculty council, and others policies and programs which could be incorporated into the university’s strategic planning. Furthermore, the committee identifies opportunities which assist the university’s efforts to further internationalize its programs and curricula.

University Institutional Review Board for the Protection of Human Subjects
The IRB is a university-wide committee formally appointed by the president to review all DePaul-affiliated research activities involving human participants. In March 1, 2002, DePaul University entered into a contract (called a Federal Wide Assurance) with the federal Office of Human Research Protection assuring that all funded and unfunded research conducted by DePaul University faculty, staff, and students is in compliance with the code of federal regulations (45 CFR 46). The IRB works to ensure maximal protection of the rights and welfare of research participants and compliance with 45 CFR 46. IRB approval affirms the methodological and ethical quality of the research.

University Licensing Code of Conduct Advisory Committee
Ensure that Depaul licensees are in compliance with the university’s code of conduct for licensees. The committee is also charged with creating learning opportunities about factory sweatshop conditions in the apparel industry and related social justice issues for the DePaul community.
